PRINCE2 training is delivered by Accredited Training Organisations (ATOs), there are many ATOs in Australia and many more worldwide. To train people for either of the PRINCE2 examinations, training organisations need to be properly accredited by the Office of Government Commerce’s partner, the APM Group. Examinations are usually administered by ATOs at the end of their training courses.
There are two examinations in PRINCE2.
- Foundation Examination
This is a knowledge check on the PRINCE2 manual and its project management methodology, taken through a one-hour multiple choice paper, composed of 75 questions. Candidates must achieve 38 correct answers to pass. - Practitioner Examination
Candidates for the PRINCE2 Practitioner examination must first have passed the Foundation examination. The Practitioner exam is a three-hour case-based examination, with a scenario background and 3 questions. Anyone taking this examination should be able to apply PRINCE2 to the running and management of a project.
The “PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner” qualification has a life of 5 years, after which a 1 hour Re-registration examination must be taken to keep the qualification “current”. The Re-registration exam is also scenario based with just one question associated to it. PRINCE AUSTRALIA accredits PRINCE2 Training Organisations, PRINCE2 Trainers, and PRINCE2 Consultants in Australasia and administers the PRINCE2 examinations system for Project Managers to become qualified as PRINCE2 Practitioners in Australasia and SE Asia.
In addition to Prince2 for Project Management, the OGC also provides M_o_R (Management of Risk) and MSP (Managing Successful Programmes). Many of the ATOs who offer Prince2 training also offer training and examinations on these subjects
